Sony, on the other hands, ports their games on PC a few years after it has already been available on console, usually right around the time a sequel or spin-off is about to come out. The latest in this line of ports is the new Last of Us Part 1 remake that’s most likely coming out for PC next year. The other big Naughty Dog franchise, Uncharted, is also receiving a PC port very soon. Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection, a two-game bundle containing Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, is set to brace the PC platform some time in the future. It was announced last at last year’s PlayStation Showcase event and was consequently released for the PlayStation 5 console in January of this year.
The game was revealed to launch on PC as well, but with no concrete release date cited. Generally, porting console exclusives to a newer generation of the same console family is easier than porting it to another platform. That’s why PC ports of PlayStation games take a long time before arriving and often require extensive development efforts. The Legacy of Thieves Collection has had several PC release dates leaked in the past few weeks. Just a couple of days ago, the game was expected to release for PC as a surprise drop in mid-June, but it was hard to believe that Sony would opt for that kind of launch for such a major game. As expected, nothing of that sorts happened, but now a new release date has come forward and this one looks a lot more legit.
Uncharted coming to PC this Fall
Originally spotted by Wario64, over at SteamDB, a new release date is being listed for Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves collection. According to the page, the game is set to release on October 19th, 2022. SteamDB is a third-party database that extracts all of the data, hidden or public, from the Steam client. It has accurately predicted release dates for several games in the past. However, keep in mind that SteamDB is not a leaker or a “source”. It’s simply a tool that displays data that is already present inside Steam. Therefore, this release date could very well be a placeholder. Developers and platform owners put placeholder dates for games all the time. This is done to prevent any further speculation from building up, to throw us off, or to simply convey this information to relevant parties, without revealing it to the general public. So, even if this isn’t a placeholder date, it could still just be simply incorrect. We have no way of knowing. That being said, this does look like it might actually be a solid leak considering that the release date is set in Fall and there’s a lot of time in between for Sony to kick in its marketing for the game and open pre-orders. October is roughly four months away, so we should be hearing about this, officially, from Sony any moment now.
